Matt’s Macro On Tour

January 24, 2019

Matt’s Macro will now be offering classroom sessions to all primary schools between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

What does a classroom session contain?

They are a simple, fun, informative and an educational approach to conservation and biodiversity and, in most cases, a chance to get up close with some beautiful insects like praying mantis and stick insects. The sessions will be held by Matt Doogue in the classroom and sometimes he may have help from Apithanny Bourne, Chair of East Scotland Butterfly Conservation.

Session times are 30/45 minutes long, and if possible more than one class can be seen in the day or if the school has an eco-club he can run a session for then too. If your school doesn’t have an eco-club he can discuss setting one up.

What’s the cost?

There is no cost. Matt is doing this in his free time in between working shifts.

What does Matt wish to achieve?

Through each session Matt wants to inspire everyone – children and adults. He wants to showcase the beauty of the natural world, ignite a spark of  passion for conservation and awareness of the natural state of our wildlife and environment. He wants to wow each pupil so the next time they see a spider scuttle across the floor they won’t squish it into the carpet and scream, but learn to appreciate all wildlife no matter how big or small.  He wants children to learn to be intrigued by spiders and all wildlife, to see their worth and ultimately protect them.

Matt will discuss the environment and ways in which the school can help local wildlife. Grow Wild UK have kindly donated wildflower seed kits for each school taking part, and he will be on hand if required to plan gardens or wildflower areas with you.

He won’t be preachy, he won’t be pushing his own ideas, it will be a fun and educational session for all.

We share this planet with so many amazing creatures and it’s up to us to do our best to conserve it! Together we can make a difference.
