Mandina River Lodge, Makasutu Forest, The Gambia

May 11, 2016

“This place is amazing. It’s like a little heaven on earth.
You should go there.
”  Chris Packham

Less than 40 minutes from the airport but a world away from the stresses and strains of everyday life, Mandina River Lodge is an oasis of colour in the middle of Makasutu Forest, home to troops of baboons and monkeys, as well as monitor lizards, mongoose and a host of other wildlife, the visible presence of which varies throughout the season.

But most people come for the birds – over 250 species have been seen in the immediate vicinity.

Set on the banks of a tidal creek which leads to the mouth of the great Gambia River, Mandina River Lodge is ideal for those who perhaps prefer gentle walks or river trips by canoe to hard-core birding, but the excellent guides can set individual programmes to help all guests make the most of their stay.

The unique design, offering peace and privacy, excellent food, friendly staff and reputedly the best pool in Gambia, combine to draw guests back again and again.
