Despite repeated and regular requests to write natural history books Chris has produced relatively few. He has had very mixed relationships with editors and has either loved or loathed the experience. It's not that he's a megalomaniac by any means, just that he enjoys working with a sympathetic, enthusiastic and committed colleague.

Perhaps on this account it is not surprising that his most recent success in the natural history department was 'Back Garden Nature Reserve' which was published by New Holland a few years ago. Still in print, now in softback, it has sold and continues to sell well, probably because it's a hearty, humourous and yet practical guide on how to manage your back garden for the benefit of wildlife. And the editor was great. Available on Amazon of course. This book was followed by another about urban wildlife ('Chris Packham's Wild Side of Town') which is also available in softback from all reject bookshops. Enough said.

By means of a serious hobby Chris always has a short story on the go. These are fiction, invariably set in suburbia and deal with big issues in little people's lives. They are richly observed and passionately crafted. He is thinking about publishing one on this site . . . be prepared, or scared.
